Whey isolate: more protein, less lactose
Whey isolate is whey that has been filtered more finely: it usually contains more than 85% protein, with very little lactose, fat or carbohydrate. The result: more protein for fewer calories, a lighter texture and better tolerance if milk does not agree with you. Protein contributes to the maintenance of muscle mass, an advantage when you cut calories.
Our selection gathers the most popular isolates: BioTech USA Iso Whey Zero (454 g, 908 g and 1.8 kg tubs), PER4M Isolate Zero, Scitec Nutrition Whey Protein Isolate, Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Isolate, as well as Olimp and QNT products. For an even lighter, juice-like shake, also try clear whey.
An isolate is not necessarily "lactose-free": only the brand's statement guarantees it. Use the "Lactose-free" filter to see only those products. To compare concentrate, isolate and hydrolysate, read our whey guide; for cutting, our guide to the lowest-calorie proteins.
Frequently asked questions
Is whey isolate lactose-free?
It contains very little, but it is only "lactose-free" if the brand says so. The "Lactose-free" filter on this page keeps only those products.
Isolate or hydrolysate?
Hydrolysate is a "pre-digested" isolate, absorbed even faster but more expensive and often more bitter. For most athletes, an isolate is enough.
Does isolate make you lose weight?
No product makes you lose weight on its own. Isolate provides a lot of protein for few calories, which helps you reach your protein intake while dieting.
